Simple Butter Tea Cake

classic Tea Cake recipe —light, buttery, and perfect with a cup of tea ☕🍰

Ingredients

  • 1¾ cups (220 g) all-purpose flour

  • 2 tsp baking powder

  • ¼ tsp salt

  • ¾ cup (170 g) unsalted butter, softened

  • 1 cup (200 g) sugar

  • 3 large eggs, room temperature

  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

  • ½ cup (120 ml) milk


Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
    Grease and line an 8-inch round cake pan.

  2. Prepare dry ingredients
    Whisk flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.

  3. Cream butter and sugar
    Beat butter and sugar until pale and fluffy.

  4. Add eggs
    Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each. Stir in vanilla.

  5. Combine
    Add dry ingredients in two batches, alternating with milk.
    Mix just until smooth.

  6. Bake
    Pour batter into the pan.
    Bake for 30–35 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.

  7. Cool
    Let cool 10 minutes in the pan, then transfer to a wire rack.


Variations

  • Add lemon zest or orange zest 🍋🍊

  • Sprinkle sliced almonds on top before baking

  • Serve with jam and cream
